Continuing Education Event – May 26, 2016

The next Continuing Education Program will be held for you May 26 at the Universalist Unitarian Church at the corner of Charlotte and Edwin.

The topics to be presented:

The Comprehensive Care Center will be a one stop shop located in Asheville and will provide: mental health and substance abuse outpatient services, a Mobile Crisis Management Team, detox services, a community pharmacy, and family support and other services offered by the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Partners include RHA, Mission Hospital, Buncombe County, ABCCM, and Smoky Mountain LME/MCO. The overall goal is to better serve people with mental health and substance abuse issues rather than sending them to the emergency room or jail.

Join us from 12-1:30.  Some snacks will be available and bring your lunch if you wish.

If you still owe your $15 2016 dues, please bring cash or a check made out to BCGALA.

Thank you!

Continuing Education Event – 3/24/2016

The continuing education event for March will be on the Smoky Mountain LME/MCO. Which is a public managed care organization that oversees Medicaid, state and local funding and offers a comprehensive health plan for individuals and families in need of mental health, substance use or intellectual/developmental disability services.  They operate in 23 counties in WNC. Although Smoky does not provide services directly, it ensures people who need treatment receive quality care in a timely manner. Smoky Mountain Care Coordinators are members of a number of our Child & Family Teams. A Smoky Mountain representative will discuss the system of care that is utilized throughout the process. System of Care is family and child focused. The needs of the person will determine the level of care/services provided.

Please RSVP.  As always, coffee, tea and sweets will be provided.  Bring your lunch if you care to.

Continuing Education Event – 2/23/16

The training on 2-23-16 should be very interesting.  Suzanne Metcalf with Smart Start will discuss why  the first 2,000 days of a child’s life are critical for later functioning . Early learning experiences and child development are a dynamic interactive process that are not predetermined.  Every experience a baby has forms a neural connection in the brain and these connections form rapidly in early years and form a foundation for the future.  We will also have a brief presentation from Diane Amos from Read to Succeed.  This volunteer program works with at risk young children in Asheville city schools.

As always, please RSVP so we are aware of how many people we should plan for!
